facts about our inmates

At Bronx House of Detention, we are committed to treating all inmates with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances. We work closely with our staff and community partners to provide a safe and secure environment for our inmates, while also offering programs and services to help them successfully reintegrate into society.

Pretrial detainees:

These are individuals who have been arrested and are awaiting trial. They have not been convicted of a crime and are considered innocent until proven guilty

Convicted inmates:

These are individuals who have been convicted of a crime and are serving a sentence in our facility.

Immigration detainees:

These are individuals who are being held by the federal government for immigration-related reasons, such as awaiting deportation or seeking asylum.

Special needs inmates:

These are individuals with mental health issues, physical disabilities, or other special needs that require specialized care and attention.


Juvenile offenders:

We also take in juvenile offenders who have been charged with a crime and are awaiting trial or have been sentenced to serve time in a juvenile detention center.
